An Exclusive Tour of the Calvin Klein Curator Collection

Jan 13, 2020

I grew up with the Calvin Klein brand, their fashion campaigns, their fashion. So when I was invited to breakfast with Amy Mellen, Creative Director of Calvin Klein Home, at the Calvin Klein Collection Madison Avenue Flagship, to say I was excited is an understatement. Amy took me on a private tour of the Calvin Klein Curator Collection, Calvin Klein Home’s understated luxury furniture line. And it was exquisite.

As Creative Director, Amy casually gave me the story and details behind all of the newest pieces in the collection. And when I visited Calvin Klein Home’s High Point Market showroom in North Carolina a few days later, I was able to see an even broader selection of the Curator Collection, including all of the new Fall 2014 introductions. The photographs in this post are from the Madison Avenue Flagship in New York, as well as the High Point Market showroom in North Carolina.

THE SUSPEND SECTIONAL, pictured below, features a surprising open expanse beneath the seat deck and is comprised of two components — a one arm sofa and chaise — in either a left or right facing configuration.

Calvin Klein Curator is an elaborately detailed collection of furniture, distinguished by refined finishes, discreet details, and an urbane attitude. A unique pairing of materials and finishes lends a rich theme of understated luxury to the designs. Created as a line of statement pieces, the Curator collection derives from a quiet attention to detail.

Restrained, yet dramatic, the GRAPHITE CANOPY BED , showcases a mix of American black walnut solids and veneers, with Graphite-finish steel uprights and headboard accents.

As I toured both showrooms, I was very taken with the pieces and the calming moments surrounding them. Ms. Mellen sources all of the items in the showrooms, including the driftwood sculpture shown below, and accessories throughout. Above is the SUMMIT SOFA . I love the capped arm detail that fully wraps the frame, and the down-wrapped single seat cushion is wildly comfortable.

Below is another shot of the SUSPEND SECTIONAL  — one of my favorites. Its modern silhouette definitely lends itself to being photographed and admired from multiple angles.

This sophisticated, yet informal, TRESTLE DINING TABLE  is framed by four TRESTLE DINING SIDE CHAIRS  with American black walnut frames. The chair’s upholstery details highlight its silhouette and curved back.

Every vignette in both showrooms are as perfectly edited as this one. In the foreground is the THEBES STOOL , a refined, contemporary take on a traditional Thebes-style stool. Built of solid steel with a leather seat, the piece is available in two plated metal and leather combinations: radiant brass with Yew leather and blackened steel with Kohl leather, as shown.

Calvin Klein Home has incredible accessories, in addition to beautiful furniture. Amy has sourced items from all over the world, including these gorgeous metallic silver SHIROTAE PORCELAIN CUPS AND SAUCERS

Shirotae Porcelain Cups and Saucers.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little snippet of the tour I loved taking with Amy, and that you’ll visit the Calvin Klein Collection at 654 Madison Avenue and 60th Street, as well as the High Point Market Showroom, sometime soon.
